Jun 2, 2006 – System General (SG), a leading
provider of power management ICs, today announced
the latest desktop PC ATX power supply supervisor
IC – SG6516. This IC comes with comprehensive
supervision and redundant protection functions to
protect power supplies against abnormal working conditions.
Furthermore, the SG6516 provides two 12V over current
protection functions, facilitating easy compliance
with the Intel ATX 12V version 2.0 standard.
To further enhance
its capabilities, the SG6516 is armed with over-current
protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage
protection (UVP), fault protection (FPO) and power-good
(PGO) functions. These protection features effectively
prevent power supply lockups when facing variable
voltage output levels. In comparison to existing products,
the SG6516 has a ±1% precise VRI tolerance
for assuring an accurate OCP trip point without the
need for an added variable resistance; consequently,
adding further value without raising a customer’s
additional BOM and operating costs.
The SG6516’s
high IREF precision (±5%) delivers increased
stability to the OCP trip points, and in so doing
the overall stability of the power system; additionally,
the SG6516 possesses a robust surge/ESD protection
capability at the board level. The ESD immunity levels
pass 16KV/20KV while the surge immunity passes 3.5KV.
The high performance not only complies with international
CE safety regulation standards, but also provides
double secure protection for the power system.

The SG6516 is ideally suited for desktop PC power
suppliers, industrial PC, game consoles, telecom infrastructure
systems, and other applications that require power
supplies with multiple voltage output supervision.
Packaging
The SG6515 comes in 14-pin DIP and SOIC lead-free
packages.
