System General the Secondary Synchronized Rectifier Chip, Greatly Boosting the Power Conversion Efficiency

 

Taipei, Taiwan, February 23, 2006. – System General, dedicated to low power consumption and high-efficiency power IC development, releases its latest power IC product, SG6203, today. SG6203 is a secondary synchronous rectifier control chip, suitable for general low-voltage high-current flyback power converters. It has such end applications as notebooks, LCD TV, industrial computers, etc. SG6203 reduces the power dissipation of the power supply systems and further improves the power conversion efficiency. SG6203 is the best solution for low power consumption and high efficiency power supply system development.

Most of System General’s previous products are primary PWM IC. Shipping SG6203 is one of the clues that System General is establishing a complete product chain of AC-DC power IC. With releases of other new products later in this year, the AC-DC power IC product chain of System General will completely cover primary PWM and PFC (power factor correction) IC, secondary supervisor IC and secondary synchronized regulating IC.

SG6203 is a secondary synchronous rectifier controller for flyback converter. It substitutes a PWM controller for the conventional secondary Schottky diode and reduces conduction loss and therefore raises conversion efficiency. To reduce power dissipation to a minimum, SG6203 uses the System General patented synchronized regulation technology (US. Patent Applied No: 10/896,103). Under the continuous current operation mode, SG6203 can generate the best dead time with the help of its automatic primary PWM signal detection and reduce power dissipation. It also greatly improves power conversion efficiency by using an equivalent serial resistor and an output capacitor as the secondary current detector.

SG6203 provides excellent power supply protection. Its working voltage ranges from 6V to 20V. It can operate under continuous or discontinuous current modes. Its power protection mechanism will be activated under the small load and discontinuous current mode to avoid reverse current. Besides such excellent performance as highly-reduced power loss and greatly-improved conversion efficiency, SG6203 can reduce the heat sink size and further the power converter size. Boosting the AC-DC conversion efficiency to the highest, SG6203 is the best for high efficiency power supply development.
