today announced the release of the SG6561/A, a power
factor correction (PFC) controller IC. Introduction
of the SG6561/A further demonstrates System General’s
readiness to meet the diverse challenges of the power
management industry. The SG6561/A is being offered
as a cost competitive alternative to similar products
provided by other manufacturers, and yet provides
many additional features and enhanced performance.
The SG6561/A combines reliable protection with a design
that requires few external components.

The 6561 is specially designed for PFC
pre-regulators in electronic lamp ballasts, AC-DC
adapters, and switching mode power supplies. Its excellent
performance and low external part count make it ideal
for many unconventional topologies and applications.
The SG6561/A is a high-performance power IC with remarkably
low standby and operating current requirements.
More Features
The full range of features offered includes: input
operating voltage range up to 25 Volts, precise output
over- voltage protection (OVP); brownout protection
(programmable maximum on-time); low minimum startup
current (20 uA); low minimum operating current (4.5
mA); feedback open loop protection; short circuit
protection (feedback pin); 0.8V peak current limit
for reducing power consumption, 17V gate output clamping
circuit.
The SG6561 and SG6561A are fully pin-compatible with
similar ICs provided by other leading manufacturers.
The SG6561A provides even more precise output over-voltage
protection (OVP), though the external compensation
capacitor may require minor changes.
Applications
The SG6561/A is best suited for electronic lamp ballasts,
AC-DC switching mode power converters, open frame
power supplies & power adapters, and flyback power
converters with ZCS/ZVS.

The SG6561/A comes in 8-pin DIP and SOP packages.
The SG6561/A is fully pin-compatible with the L6561.
